Melamine powder (A5) is a high-grade melamine-formaldehyde moulding compound made from melamine-formaldehyde resin with cellulose filler, pigments and curing agents. It is a white, odourless powder with high surface hardness, good gloss, impact resistance, and resistance to boiling water and weak acids and bases, with a heat deflection temperature above 120–155 °C. Its high density and excellent surface quality make A5 particularly suitable for export-grade melamine tableware and porcelain-like tableware, as well as low- and medium-voltage electrical parts and flame-retardant articles. A5 powder is usually compression moulded, forming a stable crosslinked network that gives products good mechanical properties and chemical stability.
